Health Care Around the World

Permit me a moment to stand on my soapbox.

A couple years ago I took a course at GMU called "Biomedical Ethics". The course was quite interesting and I was assigned to give a presentation on Managed Care. I really learned a lot about health care around the world. I know a lady at church who has a million dollars in medical bills, and the care she received was sub-standard. She suffers from the poor treatment still.
This is not just a political issue, but for many of us it is a personal issue. Health care decisions often shape our life-changing decisions. How many of us have chosen a certain job because of health care benefits? When to have a child? Staying at a job we despise? My hope is that Americans will be more proactive in speaking up for health care reform. We are the people, so therefore we are the government.

If you are interested, here is a link to a very interesting NPR series on health care.

I loved to hate my Bio-ethics class. My presentation was on Involuntary commitment. Health care in America is in trouble. I'm glad I work for a corporation that has the lowest heathcare costs in the west (even if it is the "deathstar" or "mothership")
